Why Cups and Grams Are Not Interchangeable

A US recipe that calls for "1 cup flour" and "1 cup sugar" asks for two very different weights. One cup of all-purpose flour weighs about 120 g (4.2 oz), while one cup of granulated sugar weighs about 198–200 g (7.0 oz)[king-arthur-weight-chart]. The cup itself is not universal either. How to Use This Calculator

You need three choices: ingredient, amount, and units. The worked example below uses the most common search — "1 cup flour in grams" — then shows the reverse.

Example 1 — US recipe, metric kitchen: 1 cup all-purpose flour → grams.

The Formula
