Wall Area
This gives the gross wall area before subtracting openings. For vaulted ceilings, measure the wall height at both the lowest and highest points and use the average. For rooms with multiple wall heights, calculate each section separately.
Ceiling Area
The ceiling area equals the floor area for rectangular rooms. For vaulted or cathedral ceilings, multiply the floor area by a slope factor (approximately 1.1 for moderate slopes, 1.2 for steep slopes).
Net Area
Standard windows are approximately 15 sq ft (3 ft x 5 ft) and standard doors are approximately 20 sq ft (3 ft x 6 ft 8 in). For non-standard openings, measure the actual dimensions.
Sheets Needed
Always round up to the nearest full sheet. A standard 4x8 sheet covers 32 sq ft. Partial sheets cannot be returned to most suppliers.
